Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need to be good at sport to study GCSE PE?

Not essential but a higher level of performance will lead to higher practical marks. It is, however, essential to have a keen interest in sport. Remember 60% of the course is the learning of the theoretical components of PE in the classroom though.

Why should I study GCSE PE?

GCSE PE has a multitude of career options beyond GCSE. Some of our ex-students have gone on to study medicine at university, become physiotherapists, PE teachers, sports psychologists, sports journalists and some are even now professional athletes.

When do I need to choose my sports?

You will follow a programme covering a variety of sports, allowing knowledge development and application in a variety of sports. Towards the end of Year 11, we will discuss with you your best 3 sports and enter these to the exam board (Remember these have to be a mixture of team and individual sports). Please see the practical specification, in other information, to see the extensive list of sports you are assessed in.

I participate in a sport that we don't study in school, such as skiing or rock climbing, how is this assessed?

We ask you to submit video evidence that covers both the core and advanced skills on the specification, as well as demonstrating these within a competitive situation.

How many lessons of GCSE PE do I do over the two week timetable?

You have 5 lessons of GCSE PE over the two week timetable, in addition to your core PE lessons, which break down into 3 theory lessons and 2 practical lessons.
