The West Bridgford School

Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

At the West Bridgford School we aim to challenge our students with the breadth and depth of our curriculum offer.  Students experience a broad range of subjects through our 3 year Key Stage 3 and choose their Options in Year 9, and start studying their GCSE and Level 2 vocational courses in Year 10.  We believe that almost all our students should study a broad range of subjects until 16 and so the English Baccalaureate is our standard offer.  This means that students study English, Maths and Science GCSEs, a choice of French, German, or Spanish, and either Geography or History.  Students also have a choice of 2 Options from a broad range of GCSE subjects and level 2 vocational qualifications.  Only in exceptional circumstances do students study a modification of this curriculum.

We believe this opens up the broadest range of opportunities for Post 16 study either at our Post 16 centre or at other Further Education providers.  Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of A level courses with very high uptake in STEM subjects.  We also offer a small number a small number of specialised vocational courses. The vast majority of our leavers go on to study at University or study higher level apprenticeships related to the subjects they studied during their time with us.

Our academic curriculum is run alongside a broad Personal Social and Health Education curriculum, integrated careers education and support. This continues with Personal Development lessons at Post 16.

Further details of our curriculum can be found in our Curriculum Policy here.  Below are the links to each subject area of our curriculum.  Each course has a roadmap which outlines the content, sequence and organisation of each subject from year 7 to year 13.
