The West Bridgford School

Photography

The GCSE in Digital Photography is for those of you who have an interest in the visual world and wish to develop their creative skills through Photography rather than a more practical Art & Design course. Everyone has something to learn from looking at the world around you!

Photography at The West Bridgford School is a subject that will develop skills that are valued by colleges, employers and universities: such as problem solving, using your initiative, decision making, insight, creative thinking and imagination. On the course you will learn how to compose creative photographs, how to use digital cameras, various ways of manipulating photographs and explore different genres of Photography.

Assessment

The course is assessed through coursework which accounts for 60% of the overall grade and a final exam which is 40% of your marks.

You are able to prepare for the exam beforehand and complete a timed piece of work during the exam.

 Other Information

You will begin year 10 with a series of short projects that will develop your technical skills in using a camera, Photoshop and composing photographic images. As the year develops you will begin to develop a more personal theme and complete 2 individual projects. During the course you will have a mock exam that will enable you to understand how the terminal exam works and also give you an opportunity to add to your coursework. Throughout the course you will be guided and supported by your Photography teacher, however we also encourage you to use your own interests and ideas to develop your work. We take you to visit Art/photography galleries to experience Art and Photography at first hand and also give you the opportunity to work with practising artists.
