Engineering
The Engineering course is for students who favour technical solutions and invention over visual design. You will enjoy applying concepts from mathematics and physics to solve real world problems using technical skills and knowledge. Students will be interested in understanding the technology of the world around us and enjoy working using workshop equipment including CAD to produce accurate prototypes that perform a task.
The final submission is a single project where you will invent and manufacture and test solution to a technical problem under oneof several tasks set by AQA.
Assessment
- Students will follow a two year course which will involve producing a prototype and accompanying portfolio non-examined assessment which will contribute to 40% of their grade.
- They will also sit at the end of Year 11 a written examination which will contribute to 60% of the final grade. The unit is assessed through a 2-hour examination paper set and marked by AQA.
Other Information
During the two year course students will develop knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials, tools, equipment, processes. Students will also develop skills in Computer Aided Design and have the opportunity to use Computer Aided Manufacture including processes such as laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC milling.
