Geography

Geography at GCSE is an exciting course which brings our world into your classroom. The current course is very practical, interactive and demands independent thinking and enthusiasm. This is a must for those who enjoy geography, the world around you and the environment you live in and want to develop their geographical, IT, media and scientific skills in an academic context. This is modern Geography for the 21st Century.

Unit 1: Living with the Physical Environment

Develops an understanding of the processes and forms associated with tectonic, geomorphological, biological and meteorological processes in different environments, and the need for management strategies governed by sustainability and consideration of the direct and indirect effects of human interaction with the Earth and the atmosphere.

Unit: 2: Challenges in the Human Environment

Develops an understanding of the factors that produce a diverse variety of human environments; the dynamic nature of these environments that change over time and place; the need for sustainable management; and the areas of current and future challenge and opportunity for these environments.

Unit 3: Geographical Applications  

 An opportunity for students to show their breadth of understanding and appreciation of the inter-relationships between different aspects of geographical study

Fieldwork

All students will take part in two days of practical fieldwork during the course, one focusing on the physical geography of the UK and the second looking at human aspects of the course. This fieldwork is designed to provide practical experience and an opportunity to collect data first hand and to bring the work covered in the classroom to life. The skills practiced during these days will be assessed as a part of the summer exams.

Assessment

The final assessment is based on 3 exams at the end of year 11. 

Unit 1 focusses on the Physical Geography, and is worth 35%

Unit 2 focusses on the Human Geography, and is worth 35%

Unit 3 looks at Geographical Applications, fieldwork and the pre-release. This is worth 30%
