Physical Education
n KS4 PE you will build on the skills you have learnt in Key Stage 3 and face increasingly complex and demanding skills. You will apply them across a range of sports and physical activities. You will develop an understanding of what makes a performance effective and how you can apply these principles to your own and others’ work. You will also further develop confidence to participate in activities outside of school and to understand the long term effects of exercise.
Assessment
Whilst here is no formal assessment during year 10 and 11, as a department we will look to assess when necessary against the GCSE 1-9 grades.
Other Information
Becoming a Sports Leader:
During your PE lessons and extra-curricular PE, you will be given the opportunity to be a Sports Leader. This will enable you to enhance your coaching and personal skills whilst working with the younger year groups after school.
The sports leadership programme allows you to develop and apply the skills of leadership, teamwork, motivation, organisation and responsibility.
Remember, not all great leaders are those that are the best at sport, what we ask is that you are willing to listen, learn and adapt.
You will take responsibility for coaching within a small group situation (warm up, main activity, small games etc) work with Primary School Children developing your skills as a leader so that you can perhaps take up the challenge to work in the community.
The programme is also looked upon by potential employers and further education establishments as being a very positive attribute towards a young person’s CV.
Clubs:
There is a full extra-curricular programme for all of our year 10 and 11 students. Some of these will focus on preparation for fixtures, some will have a GCSE focus and others will be there for enjoyment and keep you physically active.
