Biology is the scientific study of life. It is a broad subject and covers the many elements of life from molecules to animal behaviour and from DNA technology to human disease.

Biology offers students the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge biological practical work. We have invested in up-to-date equipment and we can carry out DNA fingerprinting, PCR and many more!

Year 12 Level Year 13 A Level

The Year 12 course contains the following topics:

  • Cells
  • Biological Molecules
  • Exchange

Assessed by 3 exams of 2 hours at the end of Year 13 covering:

Year 12 content plus:

  • Energy Transfer
  • Response to Environment
  • Evolution
  • Gene Expression

Assessment Information

  • 15% of the marks in the final exams will be on skills developed in the key practical throughout the year.
  • 10% of the marks in the final exams will be on mathematical skills.
