You’ll take two mandatory, one examined and one internally assessed, units in year 12. Fundamentals of Cyber Security and Preventing Cyber Attacks. These provide fundamental knowledge required for a career working in cyber-related occupations and learn to assess risks to networks, devices and applications; auditing the measures used to prevent cyberattacks and designing policies that control access to systems and educate users in cyberattack prevention

In year 13 you will undertake one examined unit, Fundamentals of Networks, and two coursework units, marked at WBS and then moderated by a visiting examiner. The assignments for the coursework are strongly vocational and practically based with a focus on solving ‘real world’ problems using both hardware and software. The units are ‘Digital Forensic Investigation’ and ‘Penetration Testing and Incident Response’. This focus on coursework makes IT particularly suitable for students who enjoy building up evidence throughout the year, rather than accruing all their marks in terminal examinations at the end of the two years.

Students will learn through a mixture of teacher-led input, student-centred research, note taking, debates, presentations, internet research tasks, practical assignments and projects, teacher support and guidance.
