NATIONAL SUCCESS FOR WBS YEAR 13 STUDENTS

WBS provides 2 teams for the final of the Science in Medicine Schools Competition

Congratulations to the two teams of year 13 students who reached the final of the national Science in Medicine Schools Competition run by Imperial College London.

Teams designed a strategy for combining hard sciences with biomedicine to reduce the number of deaths and disabilities caused by various diseases and presented their ideas as academic posters. Zaiynab, Dana, Laiba, Shehed, Deen and Aleyna designed the ‘Medi-retainer’ a medical retainer designed to hold and dispense asthmatic medication to make relieving symptoms easier, particularly during sporting events. Tasnim, Tala, Waania, Martha, Sophie and Tabssum came up with the ‘Raynaud’s Relief Band’, a silicone device which fits on the hand to monitor blood flow to the fingers helping people with Raynauds.

From 150 entries, both teams were selected to present their concepts last week to healthcare professionals and university academics on Microsoft Teams with other finalists from across the UK. The judges fed back that they were really impressed by innovative ideas and quality of their work. Well done to all involved – you can see their entries on the walls of B1!
