Religion Philosophy and Ethics (RE)

 Religion, Philosophy and Ethics are important and exciting areas of human thought and experience.

  • Are sex and love separate? 

  • What makes people equal? 

  • When is it right to go to war? 

  •  Is God a fantasy?

  • Should we be allowed to die if we ask?

This course provides continuous opportunities for developing your own ideas and values. In addition, you gain a special set of skills that can improve career prospects, whether as lawyers, journalists, managers, or any profession requiring empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to evaluate ideas. This course helps you understand other people, especially the beliefs, teachings and practices that inspire the lives of millions.

You study Islam and Christianity, both vital for understanding the modern world, its individuals and communities. Both together are followed by half the people on the planet. Discussion is central to the course, but opinions need to be informed, reasoned and supported with evidence and argument. Learn to debate with skill and depth. You must be enthusiastic to read, write, research and make high quality presentations. This can be a challenge, but students succeed in a class of supportive learners and practice makes perfect – gaining vital skills for future careers.

GCSE RE Course Content

Assessment

Examination: You take three written examination papers (4 hour total; 100%). The exams assess your understanding of issues and how believers respond; and your ability to discuss and evaluate.
