The timeline below explains the process and what you need to do when.
Year 9 Options Page and information is launched to students
Early October
Taster Sessions Sign up
The Options Taster day will give you sample lessons for subjects you may want to take in Years 10 and 11. In these sessions you can go and ask about the courses you think you may want to study. Sign up by completing the Year 9 Options Taster Day 2025 Choices Form. Careers advice and discussions in Tutor Time will help support you through the process.
Go through the Options with your Parents and Carers
Available from the 10th of October to Options Deadline Day on the 4th of December.
Read about the options that are available to you. Watch the videos. Ask your class teachers questions about the course. Talk to your tutor if you are unsure of the process. Reflect on the Taster Sessions with your Parents and Carers.
Year 9 Options Evening
On Thursday 27th November from 6pm - 8pm, parents/carers and students are invited into school for a Year 9 Options Evening. This is an opportunity to talk to the teachers of all subjects and should help you to make fully informed choices for your GCSEs.
Time to make your mind up and select the subjects by filling in the Options Form before the 4th of December.
You will submit your choices online using the link that is sent to your school email with a Deadline of the 4th of December 2025. The form will go live on Tuesday 25th November.
Mr Judge then looks to make the Options fit around the timetable.
If your Options fit, and the courses are all available, you will get a confirmation in the Spring Term. If your combinations cannot be offered, Mr Judge will come and discuss the different alternatives that are available. This is rare but we cannot guarantee your combination of Options choices will be available to you.
Parent & Carer Consultation
The focus of the Year 9 Consultation Events is to allow you to talk to your teachers about your thoughts on what Option subjects you intend to take and make sure you are happy with the choices you have made. They take place online on the 12th of March for tutor groups EFGHJ and the 19th of March for Tutor groups ABCD.
