At the West Bridgford School we are aware that students may well have caring roles at home. We believe that all children and young people have the right to an education, regardless of what is happening at home and that no child should have to take on inappropriate or excessive caring responsibilities.
When a young person looks after someone in their family who has a serious illness, disability or substance misuse problem, they may need a little extra support to get the most out of school. We aim to understand the issues faced by young carers and provide support through a whole school approach and through working with other agencies, with the understanding that support for the whole family is in the best interest of the young carer.
The school is accessible and is keen to remove any barriers to parents/carers being fully engaged with the education of their child.
The school can put young carers and their families in touch with Action for Young Carers. Please visit www.carersfederation.co.uk for more information.
