Celebration of United Kingdom

On Wednesday 8th July we celebrated our wonderful United Kingdom. There was bunting, flags and cakes in abundance. Stunning creative writing by pupils gave a flavour of being oh-so-British! We were overwhelmed with the incredible standard of cakes pupils entered for our Bake Off competition. After some deliberation and discussion about each entry, our judges agreed on the winning cakes. Well done to Safia Munir for winning first prize with her mini-afternoon tea-set bake. Most of the cakes then went on sale, raising £113 for charity. Well done to all who entered, and to parents and carers offering a helping hand!cake 2015

The catering team were pleased to see their Afternoon Tea was such a success, selling every plate on offer! Many tested their knowledge of UK culture by entering our quiz – all answers could be spotted by the most keen in our informative displays, much of the work produced by pupils in their English, history and tech lessons – fashion, language, culture, interesting random facts, the monarchy, music, places of interest etc, there was a bit of everything. Pupils were then invited to enjoy a civilised game of croquet, watch some talented tennis player’s team up for a good game, watch cricket and enjoy some crafts. Our guests from local primaries seemed to make the most of their visit, soaking up the atmosphere and getting involved, particularly with the croquet.

Our celebration lunches are just one of the ways we enable our school community to learn about diversity, and how important it is to acknowledge, learn about and celebrate our differences and similarities – something our culture and diversity ambassadors do extremely well. Incredible day, even with our frequent visitor…rain…popping in, but in true British style, we all carried on having a merry time regardless J
