On Wednesday 1st May the Under 15 Boys Cricket Team beat last year’s finalists Djanogly Academy to reach the Quarter Finals. After being put into bat by Djanogly the Bridgford openers of Saad Ashraf and Harry Simpson started well scoring 28 in the first 4 overs however Djanogly began to recover and took some good wickets and at the halfway stage Bridgford were pegged back to 62 runs with 3 wickets down. The middle order batsmen continued to play positively looking to score wherever possible and some good overs towards the end of the innings ensured a challenging total of 140 runs was achieved. Special mention must go to Captain Saad Ashraf who scored an unbeaten 84* after playing quite beautifully throughout.
The Djanogly chase didn’t get off to the best of starts as the aggressive fast bowling of Jacob Davies took a wicket with the very first ball. He continued to bowl good line and length and caused all sorts of problems for the Djanogly batsmen and at the halfway stage Djanogly had reached just 46 runs however their opener Daniel Bazmi was well set and beginning to hit some well-timed shots. As the innings continued wickets continued to fall but we just couldn’t find a way to get Bazmi out!! Solid bowling from Calum Dring, Harry Simpson, Joe Blaney, Pat Boak, Lloyd Marchant all restricted the scoring and with just 2 overs to go Djanogly needed 24 to win. In the penultimate over Jai Jandu bowled a beautiful length delivery which Daniel Bazmi played onto his own stumps and was therefore out….HOWZAT!!! This was the wicket we were after and Bridgford ended up winning by just 5 runs!! A fantastic team performance and one that we hope will continue in the Quarter Final against Tuxford School on Monday May 13th.
